COMPETITIONS
Northampton County Hall
Full details have been released of the two-stage competition promoted by Northampton County Council for a new county hall which, after local government reorganisation in 1974, will house services which are at present divided between several local authorities. The promoters hope that the building will become a focal point for county affairs and that its design will reflect 'the responsibilities towards the community which fall on elected members and the council staff'. The site, Wollton Hall Park, is high with wide views over the county and has plenty of mature trees.
first prize is £7000, the second £3500 and the third £2350. Unpremiated competitors who reach the second stage will get £1000 each. The assessors are Richard Sheppard, Harry Faulkner Brown, Neville Conder, William Whitfield, A.C.A. Colton (chairman of the council), D.P. Oxenham (chairman of the General Services Committee) and J.F. Goff (county architect). Competitors must be architects who live in the UK.
Conditions may be obtained after 1 November from the Clerk to the County council, County Hall, Northampton (envelopes should be marked 'architectural competition'). A deposit of £10 is required. Last date for submission fro the first stage is 30 March 1973.
